David Darley

CrossFit - L2

David is the youngest of our coaching staff. David first came to Refine when he was 18 for a college class at NLC College. Lindsay Burks (gym owner) was his professor at the time. After his freshman year, he took up an internship at the gym under both Lindsay and Aaron. After completing his internship, David got his L1, one month before he graduated from NLC College with his associates degree. He’ll be returning to NLC College in the fall of 2019 to complete his BA in Business Administration. When David is not at the gym, you’ll find him at New Life Church serving in the youth ministry or traveling around the world on mission trips.

How long have you been involved with CrossFit? What got you started?
I started doing CrossFit when I was 17 to stay in shape for football. I had to come to Refine one day when I was 18 for a College class. Loved the gym and wanted to stick around. I “drank the Kool-aid” when I was 19 when I took up an internship at Refine.

What’s your favorite CrossFit move/lift? Why?
My favorite movements are power cleans and muscle ups. Cleans have always been a strength of mine. Muscle ups were a movement that I never thought I would be able to do.

What’s your least favorite? Why?
Thrusters and burpees. Both are registered torture methods in my book.

What’s your favorite part about coaching?
Helping people do more than they think they can do and passing on everything that has been taught to me.

If you’re going to cheat on diet, what’s your guilty pleasure food or meal?
Chick-fil-a and Don Pepe’s know me by name.

Favorite hobby outside of the gym?
I love traveling. I was fortunate to be able to visit 7 different countries by the age of 20. I also have a passion for doing international mission trips. Peru will always have my heart.

What keeps you coming back to CrossFit every day?
What keeps me coming back is the community and the coaching staff I get to work with. We all make each other better. Working and learning under Aaron and Lindsay has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

What’s your favorite thing about Refine?
My favorite part is forming new relationships and meeting new people. We love it when we win a competition, but it means so much more to make a new friend here.
